In Memoriam
Julian Patterson-Glasgow
BNHRA Board Member
"Julian's legacy is marked by his unwavering commitment to enriching the lives of both colleagues and friends: crafting spaces for genuine self-expression and both personal and professional fulfillment."
Julian Patterson-Glasgow emerged as a notable figure in Human Resources, valued for his substantial knowledge in employee and labor relations and HR management. Holding a Master of Public Administration and Management from SUNY Buffalo State, he crafted an impressive career defined by his dedication to creating welcoming, inclusive, and fair workplaces.
Julian stood out for driving initiatives that improved company morale, instituted effective diversity, equity, and inclusion frameworks, and enhanced policies to ensure fairness and social awareness. His skill in handling the intricacies of union environments, alongside his expertise in recruitment, retention, and contract negotiation, underscored his broad command of HR practice.
His commitment extended well beyond the workplace. Through mentoring with Say Yes Buffalo, he supported rising high school graduates. He made history as the youngest Board Member of the Community Action Organization of WNY, and served BNHRA as Director of College Relations — a role that reflected both his investment in the profession and in the next generation entering it.
In his personal life, Julian was a devoted advocate of physical fitness, and found joy in amusement parks, roller skating, dancing, cooking, and traveling the world alongside his husband Mark Glasgow. Those who knew him recognized how fully his personal warmth carried into his professional work.
BNHRA honored Julian's memory and legacy at our 50th anniversary celebration. His family was present, and BNHRA presented a commemorative plaque in recognition of his contributions to the chapter and to the profession.
His work in this community, and his presence in this chapter, left a mark that outlasts his time with us. BNHRA hosts his signature Empower HR Panel annually and will continue programming focused on accessibility into the HR space for underserved communities.
