Meeting Workforce Needs – Filling the Soft Skills Gap

As we all know, there are many challenges facing employers these days. In this country, we have 15 million jobs that are left unfilled, yet millions of Americans looking for jobs. There is a tremendous disconnect between the skillset of those entering the job market, and the skills needed by employers. Nearly all employers say that American workers are not skilled enough, with many saying the biggest issue is the lack of soft skills.

In 2016, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Junior Achievement USA announced a collaborative partnership to promote work readiness initiatives across the country.

Those in attendance will have the opportunity to experience a condensed version of a work-readiness JA lesson at their tables.

This event is pre-approved for SHRM-CP recertification credit and pending approval by HRCI

JA volunteer time (classroom, student events, board member, etc.) can also qualify for SHRM PDC’s. An activity code is not necessary. Volunteers who are SHRM certified should consult their Recertification Handbook for additional information.

About our speaker:
Alycia Ivancie, Senior Education Manager at Junior Achievement of Western New York will address how JA’s work-readiness focused programs provide early intervention opportunities to address the skills gap seen by HR professionals in the workplace. Alycia has an MS in Education and BA in Communications from Canisius College and has been with JA since 2001.
