    BNHRA will host its monthly meeting at Wyndham Garden Buffalo Williamsville featuring a cocktail reception and networking from 4:45 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. and our diversity presentation from 5:30 - 6:30 pm featuring Steve Jagord, LGBTQ Field Educator for the Pride Center of WNY.  

    LGBTQ Cultural Competency – Business/Employment

    LGBTQ Cultural Competency Presentation on being sensitive to the thoughts, feelings, and experiences of their LGBT customers/clients/ and co-workers.
    This program will provide concrete information, real-world examples, role playing and exercises to enlighten you in ways that lead to a more equal, affirming, and productive environment. This training will help to address considerations such as improving communication, creating safer space, developing tolerance, and enhancing work environments.

    Learning objectives may include:
    • Defining and discussing LGBTQ terminology
    • Recognizing the difference between sex & gender
    • Exploring LGBTQ communities, culture, & history
    • Understanding aspects of identity
    • Understanding how beliefs/feelings/values perpetuate oppression
    • Understanding the impact of homophobia, heterosexism, and transphobia on LGBTQ people
    • Understanding what it means to be LGBTQ affirmative
    • Addressing concerns such as bullying, confidentiality, gendered spaces, and the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA)
    • Creating safe, welcoming, and culturally aware space

    This meeting has received recertification credit by SHRM and HRCI


    About our speaker:

      Steve Jagord began his career at the Pride Center as an LGBTQ field educator, following a stint as editor of a local community newspaper. Prior to that, he worked in human services and still does volunteer work with members of the developmentally disabled community. In his spare time, Steve also volunteers for embrace Western New York – another LGBT-focused nonprofit based in Buffalo – serving on the organization’s public relations committee. He holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Buffalo State College, a master’s degree in integrated marketing and communications from St. Bonaventure University and is a 2017 graduate of Leadership Buffalo. Steve and his husband, Patrick, have a yellow lab at home and enjoy summer road trips for concerts.
