    PHR/SPHR Certification Prep:

    Interested in obtaining your PHR/SPHR? Register for a prep program offered through Canisius College Center for Professional Development.

    This prep program is a 10 week training program designed primarily for individuals seeking certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR), or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).

    The PHR/SPHR exam evaluates the skills and knowledge of HR professionals, which is why experience is an eligibility requirement. There is not an endorsed/sponsored manual or course that will teach you how to pass HRCI's exam, but this course will help you prepare with a variety of study aid elements.

    Nervous about passing? Don’t be! Canisius has statistically been higher than the national in pass rates; however, we allow all our participants to sit in the next session of this course within one year of your paid registration. You’ll be asked to bring your original course materials.

    The HR Certification Institute offers multiple certifications to fit every HR professional including:

    The most common certifications are the PHR and SPHR. The PHR and SPHR exams assess generalist knowledge of the HR field, including strategic business management, workforce planning and employment, HR development, total rewards, employee and labor relations, and risk management.

    The GPHR exam assesses the international HR body of knowledge and is intended for HR professionals with cross-border responsibilities. The tested areas include strategic HR management, global talent acquisition and mobility, global compensation and benefits, organizational effectiveness, talent development, workforce relations, and risk management.

    Exam Requirements PHR Exam Requirements:

    • A minimum of 1 year of experience in professional level HR position with a master’s degree or higher
    • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a professional level HR position with a bachelor’s degree
    • A minimum of 4 years of experience in a professional level HR position with a high school diploma

     

    SPHR Requirements: 

    • A minimum of 4years of experience in a professional level HR position with a master’s degree or higher
    • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a professional level HR position with a bachelor’s degree
    • A minimum of 7 years of experience in a professional level HR position with a high school diploma

     

    Certification Scholarship

    The BNHRA, in conjunction with the Canisius Center for Professional Development (CPD), will award one active BNHRA Member a scholarship towards the current seminar fees at the time of enrollment, toward either the cost of the PHR/SPHR or SHRM CP/SHRM SCP certification prep program. For more information, visit the application form.

    Recertification

    Sixty (60) recertification credit hours are required every three years to maintain your certification. The recertification requirements are in place to ensure that you increase your HR knowledge and expertise. Because the HR trends, practices and policies are constantly changing, achieving these requirements helps you stay current in the HR field. You can find more information in the HRCI Recertification Handbook.  BNHRA supports your recertification efforts through our exciting programming opportunities month to month. Additionally, we are here to help with any questions you may have about recertifying, as well as ideas to meet the 6- credits required.
